  • Milestar Winterguard Tire Review

With the onset of winter, car tires take a toll unless they’re a set of dedicated winter tires. The winter driving season presents unique challenges, demanding specialized tires that can maintain grip, stability, and control across snow, slush, and ice. While many drivers opt for premium-priced snow tires, the Milestar Winterguard enters the market as a compelling, budget-friendly option designed to deliver reliable performance without compromising safety.

Engineered for passenger cars and minivans, the Winterguard focuses on providing confident, dedicated winter traction in areas where the temperature remains below 45 degrees Fahrenheit for most of the year. It utilizes a directional tread pattern and an advanced rubber compound formulated to remain flexible in freezing temperatures, ensuring maximum contact with the road surface. By incorporating high-density sipes and wide circumferential grooves, the Milestar tire aims to enhance braking and lateral stability.

So, should you buy one? To help you ease your decision, let’s analyze the features and benefits, pros and cons, SimpleTire’s view, competitors, and the compatible vehicles in this Milestar Winterguard tire review.

    Features and Benefits

Winter tires are designed to offer superb grip, traction, braking, and acceleration in moderate to severe winter weather conditions of deep ice and snow. Their special rubber compounds resist cold temperatures and maintain flexibility for optimum winter performance. The Milestar Winterguard ticks most of the boxes for a great winter tire. Let’s have a look at its features and their corresponding benefits:

    • Great winter grip and traction: With a unidirectional tread pattern with wide circumferential grooves, the Winterguard effortlessly channels water and slush away from the tread to avoid the risk of hydroplaning and boost wet traction. High-density siping of the Milestar winter tires further provides extra biting edges for maximum grip in deep ice and snow.
    • Optional studs for effective control: Being a studded tire, the Milestar Winterguard comes with pre-drilled holes for optional metal studs on select sizes. These studs provide excellent grip, traction, braking, and control in severe winter weather conditions when the temperature dips below 45 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Solid rubber compound: The Milestar winter tire features an advanced rubber compound that maintains flexibility for necessary grip, traction, and stability even in moderate to harsh winter conditions. Moreover, the wide grooves of the Winterguard further aid in improving stability and steering response.
    • Three Peak Mountain Snowflake certified: Like most winter tires, the Milestar Winterguard earns the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake and severe ice symbol certification, assuring enhanced winter performance.

Available in over 60 sizes, the Milestar Winterguard has tires in the range of 14 to 20 inches.

Went from 33x12.5r18 high dollar "all terrain" tires to Milestars 275/65r18 Winterguard on my GMC Sierra and the difference in just about every category is night and day. No more road noise, smoother ride, ability to stop on ice. Overall very refreshing to say the least. Milestars Winterguard has an excessive amount of siping which really helps during winter driving i haven't had them on my truck long enough to know how they're going to wear so for now I'll give them a 3. Most winter tires are known for wearing out much faster than your typical tire. My only complaint is that on a bare gravel road they pick up a ton of pebbles and rocks and tend to make a lot of noise. Overall at the price point for how they perform I can't imagine anything else could compete. To anyone reading who hasn't ever tried a winter tire and is skeptical pull the trigger and see for yourself the difference they make.
